Short Bio

With a passion for the creative arts since early childhood, today marks Vandana’s first public exhibition of water color paintings. She is a Fashion Designer from the National Institute of Design and has garnered acclaim most recently through her longstanding career as lead designer for Marian Clayden in Los Gatos. From working at the Batik Factory in Penang, Malaysia to teaching art history for over a decade in Bay Area schools, Vandana’s paintings are infused with a unique blend of cultural and modern perspectives influenced by her extensive travels and various design roles. Throughout her career Vandana has cultivated a distinct art style influenced by artists such as Winslow Homer, Henri Matisse, Salvador Dali and a few Asian artists like Nitin Singh and Rajkumar Sthabathy. While she enjoys working with oil using an assortment of palette knives, she has this year focused her efforts on exploring the creative possibilities that stem from water color’s limitless, flowing nature. Her style of painting captures her subjects with their colors, textures and details in a creative light.

Statement

Painting and drawing has always been a form of self-expression for me.Its been the space I go to when I need "me" time.My paintings aren't of objects or people, but instead of emotions I feel in the moments that stick with me throughout the day- whether they are expressed in a still life, landscape, or portrait. Although I am quite neat and tidy, I like to express messy, chaotic energy in my work. The drips in my watercolor art reflect an extension of my personality! I paint on an easel and let the drips happen just like life, which is unpredictable and spontaneous.
